After this year, the LCD panel (including TV panel, monitor panel and notebook panel) market will have a good start. According to research data disclosed by TrendForce, in late February 2024, the prices of 65-inch, 55-inch, 43-inch, and 32-inch TV panels all increased, while the prices of monitors and notebook panels remained unchanged.
Zhang Xinyuan, head of research at Kefande Think Tank, said in an interview with a reporter from Securities Daily: "February is the off-season for the market, and the prices of TV panels of all sizes have increased beyond market expectations. Looking forward to the whole year, TV panels still have room for growth. However, the specific trend is also affected by supply chain fluctuations, global economic environment and other factors.”
Prices of TV panels of all sizes rise
TrendForce research data shows that in late February, the average price of 65-inch TV panels was US$166, an increase of US$2 from the previous price. The average price of 55-inch TV panels in this period is US$124, an increase of US$1 from the previous price. The average price of 43-inch TV panels in this period is US$62, an increase of US$1 from the previous price. The average price of 32-inch TV panels in this period is US$35, an increase of US$1 from the previous price.
Entering February, TV panel prices have increased significantly. However, in early February, only the prices of 65-inch and 55-inch large-size panels increased compared with the previous period. In late February, the prices of TV panels of all sizes increased, benefiting listed companies related to the industry chain.
Kaiyuan Securities said that TV panel prices rose ahead of schedule in February. On the one hand, the price increase came from the supply side, due to the shortage of COP film, the upstream material for polarizers, and the panel factory's insistence on controlling production and reducing utilization rates; on the other hand, it came from the demand side. , various brands began to stock up on new models.
The price of LCD panels, including TV panels, monitor panels and notebook panels, has bottomed out in late September 2022. Among them, TV panels have increased sharply, while monitor and notebook panel prices have increased relatively slightly. TrendForce research data shows that in late February, the prices of monitors and notebook panels of various sizes remained unchanged. Among them, the average price of 11.6-inch notebook panels has remained stable at US$24.8 since late November 2022.
Zhu Keli, executive director of the China Information Association, said in an interview with a reporter from Securities Daily: "Compared with the sharp increase in TV panel prices, the reason why monitor and laptop panel prices have remained unchanged is mainly due to market demand and panel factory strategies. There are differences in TV panels.”
TrendForce analyst Fan Boyu told a reporter from Securities Daily: "Since February this year, some customers of display panels have begun to strengthen their willingness to purchase goods, and prices are expected to gradually stabilize. As for notebook panels, it is still in the off-season and has declined. The possibility is higher.”
Events will drive demand
In 2023, panel terminal demand has not yet recovered. When the market will recover has always been the focus of the industry. In 2024, events such as the Paris Olympics, European Cup, America's Cup, and World Basketball Championship will significantly boost market demand. A Shanghai Securities research report analyzed: "With panel manufacturers regulating utilization rates and major competitions stimulating demand in 2024, the global panel market is about to start a new upward cycle."
Zhang Xinyuan said: "Major sports events and entertainment activities usually stimulate consumers to purchase TV products to meet their viewing needs. This will have an impact on the panel market, especially the TV panel market. The increase in demand is expected to drive TV panel prices further up. "
"Securities Daily" reporters learned during visits and surveys that downstream TV manufacturers are already stocking up. At retail terminals, whether it is physical appliance stores or e-commerce platforms, the sales prices of most TV brands have increased compared with the price trough in 2022.
